Shelly was an accomplished biology researcher and teacher who taught at the college level in Pasadena, California, into the early 1990s. After his retirement from teaching, he moved to Oxnard, California, where he was an avid sailor and skier well into his late 80s, earning respect and admiration from friends and community members alike. Shelly was also an accomplished genealogist who authored a 600-page investigation into the history of his family which was accepted by the Library of Congress. A beloved father and friend, Shelly Robert Johnson is survived by his children Eric Johnson of Los Angeles and Carey Johnson of Plantation, Florida, and his grandchildren Tate Johnson of Bihar, India, Annika Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Lucas Carvalho of Plantation, Florida. He was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Jan Hoffman. Shelly was well known in the Oxnard sailing community not only for his sailing knowledge and skill, but especially for his personal warmth and his dedication to the local sailing community. He touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
